Information security of automated systems

Graduates get a qualification of “Specialist” and an additional title of “Engineer”. The duration of studies is 5 years. The syllabus includes general subjects in humanities, social sciences, economics, mathematics, and natural sciences. Professional subjects include Mathematical Logic and Theory of Algorithms, Information Theory, Game Theory and Operations Research, Programming Languages, Computer and Computing System Organization, basics of Information Security, Technical Information Protection, Computer Network Security, Information Security Hardware and Software, Algebraic Structures and Theory of Numbers, Software Reliability and Quality, Software Engineering, Supercomputers and their Application, and others. For training purposes, the Department of Geoinformatics and Information Security is using its unique laboratories equipped with advanced computer aids supported by the specialised licensed software.
The graduates’ activities are aimed at researching automated systems of data processing, storage and transmitting which operate in the conditions of information security risks and contain information and technological resources subject to protection; as well as at the development and application of mathematical methods, software and hardware for information protection and information security control. Professional areas for specialists in Information Protection include companies and organisations of various types of ownership (including banking sector), which have to solve the whole complex of problems related to ensuring the security of automated systems and information technologies incorporated in them. The graduates get such jobs as engineers and programmers, carry out research and manage companies’ departments or the whole companies.
