On Wednesday, October 14, the Ministry of Sport of the Russian Federation awarded certificates to the higher education institutions, on the basis of which will be set up training centres for volunteers for FIFA World Football Cup 2018 ™ and FIFA Confederations Cup 2017.
About 40 applications from 26 universities have been filed for the competition, which was held with support of the Ministry of Sport and the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation; - each of them could submit more than one application. The competition commission selected 15 universities-winners, among which there is Samara State Aerospace University.
Vitaliy Mutko, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of “Russia 2018”, Minister of Sport, handed over the Certificate for the right to set up a training centre for volunteers for FIFA World Football Cup 2018 ™ and FIFA Confederations Cup 2017 to Evgeniy Shakhmatov, SSAU Rector.
“It may be said without exaggeration, that it is a great day or the volunteer movement in Russia, - noted Vitaliy Mutko. - Conferring the status of training centres for volunteers for 15 universities in 11 host cities of the World Football Cup 2018, we are also starting a large-scale work on preparation of volunteers for the biggest sporting event in the history of our country. But what is more important, we derive the volunteers’ institution in Russia to a new development level”.
The volunteer program consists of several stages: recruitment, selection and training of volunteers, as well as the organization of their work during the Championship. In total, over 20000 volunteers will be involved in the event of FIFA Confederations Cup 2017 and FIFA World Football Cup 2018 ™ in Russia. The selection and training of volunteers for Confederations Cup 2017 and World Football Cup 2018 will start in 2016.
It is to be recalled, that in 2018 Samara will host six matches of the World Football Cup: four matches of the group stage, 1/8 and 1/4 finals. The city will require about 3 thousand volunteers for the 40 functional areas to conduct the world championship and to host the visitors.
Nikolay Merkushkin, Governor of Samara Region, previously underlined that SSAU has all the necessary infrastructure for training volunteers. According to him, the possibility of giving a part of the premises of the student cafe “Polet” for the future volunteer centre is being discussed, at its base universities and specialised secondary schools, regional non-profit organizations and everyone somehow involved in the volunteers training and recruitment will join together.
