The III International Buddhist Forum "The Buddhist World in the New Millennium" was held in the Republic of Kalmykia from September 25 to 28 and brought together delegations from thirty-four countries that practice Buddhism in the capital of the republic, the city of Elista. The Forum discussed current issues of the development of Buddhism, Buddhist culture, philosophy, and practice, as well as strengthening international cooperation between Buddhist organizations. The key topic of discussion was the harmonization of interreligious relations.
During the Forum, an Agreement was signed to establish a temporary research team for the implementation of the project "The Phenomenon of Man in the Buddhist Worldview." The temporary research team includes participants from India, China, Mongolia, and Russia. Among the eleven Russian participants of the temporary research team is a representative of Samara University, Professor Lyubov Chetyrova, who signed the Agreement.
