The RAEX Agency has released its latest subject rankings of Russian universities, part of the prestigious "Three Missions of the University" family. This year, the rankings cover 35 academic fields—spanning mathematics, natural sciences, engineering, social sciences, humanities, pedagogy, medicine, and more. The study evaluated 167 leading universities from 45 regions across Russia.
Lomonosov Moscow State University topped the overall standings, securing a place in the top three across 20 subject rankings—more than half of all categories. Saint Petersburg State University claimed second place, appearing in the top three of 13 rankings, while Higher School of Economics (HSE) rose to third, featured in 12 subject areas.
Samara University: Growth across Disciplines
Samara University has improved its standing this year, entering the top 20 in six subject areas (up from five in 2025). Notably, the university maintained its third-place position in "Aircraft and Rocket-Space Engineering"—a testament to its enduring leadership in aerospace education and research.
Additional gains include:
- Chemistry: rose to 14th place
- History and Archaeology: advanced to 16th place
- Sociology: climbed to 19th place
