During the study process, students master two foreign languages - the core language (German) and a supplemental language (English), as well as a wide range of translation-and-interpretation disciplines.

The program is aimed at training high-caliber specialists in the area of German philology on the basis of Germanic languages. In the learning process, students gain proficiency in two languages – the core language (German) and supplemental language (English), which are studied in their communicative, applied and general-theoretical aspects. Moreover, students study the literature, mass media environment and overall linguistic culture of core-language countries. Upon completing the program, graduates are ready for a wide range of translation-and-interpretation jobs, for work in the area of intercultural communication, for employment as language teachers at colleges and schools, and for research-and-journalism work at domestic and foreign mass media outlets.
Classes are led by doctors and candidates of the philological sciences with a wealth of experience in academic-and-pedagogical work. Study makes active use of cutting-edge pedagogical methods, multimedia technologies and distance-learning resources.
The program is interfaced with the master’s degree program in the direction 45.04.01 “Philology. German Languages.”
Features (advantages) of the programme
The program’s main advantages are its strong academic core combined with its practical orientation. The program envisions the intensive study of a second foreign language – English, as well as a wide range of translation-and-interpretation disciplines. The study of corporate communications broadens the opportunities of program graduates in the area of management and business (particularly at transnational companies), in the tourism industry, and in the management of foreign-language educational services.

Third-year students participate in the annual intercultural webinar with the university partner – the Stuttgart Higher School of Media. For those interested, the department offers clubs for the study of antiquity and ancient languages (Greek and Latin), as well as regular linguistic tournaments. Students have the opportunity to take part in competitions for sponsored scholarships and scholarship foundations, grants, and merit-based academic scholarships. Thanks to the department’s close cooperation with academic institutions and German firms operating in Samara Region, students get real-world training (pedagogical, translation-based)at Samara’s leading educational institutions with intensive study of the German language (academies 1, 4 and 133) at the local representative offices of Rehau, Bosch, Schwer Fittings, BORA PACK, etc.
Academic programme structure (curriculum features)
Curriculum feature lies in its gradual formation of the skills involved in communication and translation, fostering knowledge of the theoretical fundamentals with a focus on the practical and universal requirements associated with foreign-language proficiency and instruction.
The program consists of 3 blocks:
The program envisions a high volume of disciplines in terms of the choice and system of specialized seminars, which allows students in senior classes to shape a study trajectory according to their chosen specialization (translation-and-interpretation studies, linguistics, literature studies, methodology of foreign-language instruction).
Special emphasis is placed on the scientific-research work of students and the fostering of their academic interests. Graduate qualification work is prepared on the basis of practical research and undergoes approbation at scientific conferences and events held within the scope of the university-student academic community.
Future profession
Program graduates successfully realize their professional competencies and creative initiatives and are qualified to work in fields requiring a high level of linguistic proficiency: translation, publishing, training of joint venture staff, employment at travel agencies and logistics companies (particularly at Russian-German firms), in visa services, in the area of consulting, management, sports, mass media, etc.
Many graduates also work as language instructors at universities and colleges, and as teachers at different types of schools, including those featuring “German+English” bilingual study programs.

- Participate in programs offered by the German Office for Academic Exchanges (university-based summer language courses, orientation trips by student groups, practical training) and the German Office for Pedagogical Exchanges (pre-training).
- Earn an international language certificate (В 2, C 1, С 2) directly at the University Center for German Language – a partner of the Goethe-Institut (Munich, FRG).
- Study in auxiliary departmental programs and at the University Center for Linguistic Education. In particular, in courses for a third foreign language – Italian, French, Turkish, etc.
- Participate in cooperation programs with organizations and university partners in the FRG (Deutsche Welle, RBS, DLA, Stuttgart Higher School of Media, University of Erfurt, Ruhr University, etc.), and in events sponsored by Samara’s sister city - Stuttgart.
- Participate in language training at Russian representative offices of foreign companies (Rehau, Bosch, Schwer Fittings) and a number of joint enterprises, etc.
