Samara National Research University continues to consistently improve its position in the leading international rankings. Samara University was ranked the 86th in the list of the best universities of the BRICS countries, published on October 16, compiled by the experts from the British company Quacquarelli Symonds (QS BRICS University Rankings 2019).
In a year, the university has risen by seven lines in the ranking of the leading universities of the BRICS countries. While a year earlier, Samara University entered the top 100 in QS BRICS University Rankings for the first time, taking the 93rd  place. At that time the university managed to improve its performance passing 58 positions at once.  For the first time Samara University entered the QS BRICS University Rankings in 2015, when the university entered the group of universities ranked lines 151-200  of the ranking.
This year, the published part of the international ranking includes 400 best universities of the BRICS countries, of which 101 universities represent the Russian high school. 24 domestic universities are included into the top 100 in QS BRICS University Rankings. In the Russian part of the ranking, Samara University has also improved its performance and moved up from the 23rd  to the 20th  place.
“Every year the global competition among the leading universities of the world is increasing. More and more universities are striving to be included into the lists of authoritative international ranking agencies, primarily the QS World University Rankings (QS) and THE World University Rankings (THE). And it is very important that we manage to consistently improve our positions among the countries that demonstrate the most noticeable dynamics of advancement in generally accepted international rankings", – noted Vice-Rector for Educational and Foreign Affairs of Samara University Vladimir Bogatyrev.
In his estimation, the promotion of the university in QS BRICS is provided by a methodical work on the modernization of scientific and educational activities of Samara University and its consistent updating to the best international practices and standards. As a result, several criteria by which the compilers of the leading international rankings evaluate universities have already exceeded the all-Russian level. Among them there is an increase in the share of foreign students and teachers and the share of faculty members with candidate or doctoral scientific degrees. Such criteria as the academic reputation and the employer reputation of the university also showed their dynamics.
"In our university there are 906 foreign students from 72 countries of the world. They choose us, because they are sure that the scientific schools under the brand of Samara and Samara University –  Engineering, Engine Building, Cosmonautics – will allow them to build a career without any problems not only in their homeland, but also in any country in the world – pointed out Vladimir Bogatyrev. – Applicants know that they will be taught by the leading scientists engaged in real scientific research. Besides the Faculties of Economics and Law of Samara University are becoming increasingly popular with foreigners".

The BRICS Ranking is the part of the QS agency's regional rankings and is based on a methodology that takes into account not only the traditional criteria of the annual QS World Ranking (Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation, Citations per Faculty, Faculty/Student Ratio, International  Student and Faculty Ratio), but also such as the share of representatives of teaching staff with candidate or doctoral scientific degrees and the number of publications per teacher.
Samara University is the only university in the region that is among the best universities in the world according to several authoritative global rankings, including the QS World University Rankings, annually compiled by the British company Quacquarelli Symonds — in 2018 the university significantly improved its performance in it and moved up to the group of universities ranked  701 – 750. As well as THE World University Rankings — in 2018 the university was included into the group of universities ranked  801 –  1000.
