Elsevier, one of the largest scientific publishing houses in the world, has published its new annual ranking of the most cited scientists on the planet by the number of citations in the Scopus database of peer-reviewed scientific literature. Scopus indexes over 20 thousand scientific journals published in various countries of the world.

Elsevier experts included 100 thousand of the best scientists from all over the world in the 2023 ranking based on citation indicators of their scientific papers. The experts divided the scientists into 22 scientific areas and 174 subareas, in accordance with the Science-Metrix standard classification. The study presents Scopus data from October 1, 2023, with citation indicators updated as of the end of 2022.

The world ranking includes scientists from Samara University, as well.
