Mark Shleenkov Was Appointed Acting Head of the Department of Science of the Samara Region

Mark Shleenkov presented the position of the new department at the meeting of the Samara Region government that was chaired by the acting Governor of the Region Vyacheslav Fedorishchev.

As he said, “The Department of Science is included in the system of the executive power authorities not being ministries”. Mark Shleenkov listed the main tasks of the department: formation and implementation of regional policy in the field of science and higher education, creation of conditions for the development of projects, organizational and financial support of academic as well as scientific and technical activities.

When speaking to the representatives of the public relations center of Samara University, Mark Shleenkov emphasized three main tasks of the new department.

First, advancement of the system of cooperation of science, technology and production. “Here we can mention the success of our universities working with the leading industrial enterprises of the region within the Federal project Advanced Engineering Schools”, Mark Shleenkov emphasized.

Second, working at infrastructure creation and conditions to conduct research, implement science-based technologies. Here the project of international inter-university campus is emphasized, it should become the driver for the development of the university community and the city as a whole.

Third, creation of opportunities for finding and development of talented young people, their focus on the career in science and technologies. The Doctor of Sciences regional program is being worked out now exactly for that.

Mark Shleenkov graduated from the Samara State University in 2010 and defended his thesis for a Ph.D. in physics and mathematics in 2014. During several recent years, he headed the department of research personnel training at the Samara National Research University. He advanced his training and was professionally retrained at the Higher School of Economics, Moscow School of Management SKOLKOVO, State University of Management, Federal Institute of Industrial Property. This year, he completed the professional retraining program “Master of State Management for Top Managers” employing the resources and potentialities of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration.

“Working as the head of the department of research personnel training allowed me to understand special features of administrative and managerial activities at universities, and working as an assistant professor at the department of general and theoretical physics to be inside the research process”, Mark Shleenkov emphasized.

Vladimir Bogatyrev, Rector of Samara University, commented the appointment of Mark Shleenkov to the position of the acting head of the Department of Science to the TASS News Agency:

“Mark A. Shleenkov proved himself as the person capable to think strategically, he is systemic and well-organized, responsible for the result. During several recent years, he headed the department of research personnel training at the University. In 2021, he became a super-finalist of the Leaders of Russia competition. Among other things, he was responsible for the implementation of the program of operation of the global-level scientific and educational center “Engineering of the Future” in the part related to the university.

I am sure that he will be able to perform the tasks set to him and help to develop science in the Samara Region. Samara University is the supplier of high-class specialists for various sectors of the economy of the region and country and the fact that many our graduates and employees occupy leading positions confirms the high quality of education, skills and competences they receive at the University”.
