Twenty students from Nanjing received a bachelor's degree in the specialty "Rocket Systems and Cosmonautics" under the double degree program of Samara National Research University and Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA). Two of the graduates were awarded diplomas with honors.
The delegation of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, headed by Sun Zhanjiu, the Secretary of the Party Committee of the NUAA Institute of Cosmonautics, took part in the ceremony of awarding the bachelor's degree documents. The members of the delegation talked with the graduates and expressed satisfaction with both their level of training and the learning process itself at Samara University.
Ivan Tkachenko, Deputy Rector, Director of Samara University’s Institute of Aerospace Engineering, made a presentation to the Chinese delegation on IAE. The guests visited the ground control complex for small spacecraft, visited the Museum of Aviation and Cosmonautics, as well as the Advanced Aerospace Engineering School.
In order to discuss the expansion of cooperation between universities, the Chinese delegation met with Vladimir Bogatyrev, Rector of Samara University.
"Our cooperation with Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics is steadily developing," said the rector. "Now that the University’s Institute of Aerospace Engineering has hosted the first graduation of bachelors in a joint double degree program, we discussed the issue of increasing the number of Chinese students enrolled in this program. The Chinese side also expressed interest in organizing the training of NUAA students in the IAE master's degree program according to the "1+1" scheme, and in the future in postgraduate studies," Vladimir Bogatyrev said.
Cooperation with Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics goes back to the early 2000s, when contacts in the scientific field were established between universities. In 2015, a memorandum of intent was signed which outlined the main areas of cooperation between universities, in particular, the organization of academic mobility and student exchanges. In 2017, the program of double diplomas in educational areas of the Institute of Engines and Power Plants Engineering was launched, the first bachelor's degree programs in engine engineering, and then the masters defended their final qualifying works.
Now a similar program is being implemented in the specialties of the Institute of Aerospace Engineering. Chinese students who graduated from the second year at NUAA and passed the University selection there came to Samara in 2022 and continued their studies at IAE. Subjects were taught in Russian, which they studied in junior courses at their university offline and remotely at Samara University. The group was graduated from the Department of Space Engineering named after General Designer D. I. Kozlov.
Ivan Tkachenko noted the good basic training of NUAA students, which they received in their junior years. According to him, the issue of expanding the volume of language training through the Center for the Promotion of the Russian language of Samara University is being resolved.
According to Anton Gulbis, head of the International Cooperation Department, a group of 16 students is currently studying at IAE under the double degree program; they have already completed the 3rd year and are moving on to the 4th. In the autumn of 2024, another group of 22 people from Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics will begin their 3rd year studies at the Institute of Aerospace Engineering. Furthermore, according to the programs implemented by the Center for the Promotion of the Russian Language of Samara University, 25 first-year students of NUAA are being taught Russian in an online format.
