The educational program of the All-Russian competition of scientific research works with international participation “Ten to minus the ninth” provided the opportunity for the participants to conduct research, talk about their developments, significantly expand their knowledge in the sphere of natural science and in nanotechnologies.
In the period from May 6 to July 1, 2024, the schoolchildren created unique research papers on one of 16 themes proposed by the organizers of the competition. They considered topics such as
1. Research on the trend towards replacing animal products with vegetable analogues;
2. Application and properties of two-component chemical systems;
3. The future of agricultural fertilizers — problems and solutions;
4. Fundamental natural science research;
5. The use of UAVs in environmental monitoring;
6. Artificial intelligence in the big data analysis of natural sciences;
7. Research in the field of household chemicals;
8. Processing, use and development of chemical current sources;
9. Perovskite in electronics;
10. The use of radioactive isotopes for electronic devices of the future;
11. Features of manufacturing diffraction optical elements;
12. Metamaterials in optoelectronic devices;
13. Silicon carbide-based solar cells;
14. Silicon carbide. Features of manufacturing electronic devices based on silicon carbide of various polytypes;
15. Porous silicon for optoelectronics;
16. New materials for electronics.
"A trip to Artek has been my dream since early childhood. I learned about the contest "Ten to minus the ninth" from classmates and also decided to try my hand. While writing a research paper, I learned a lot about chemistry and environmental issues. I was incredibly happy when I saw myself on the list of finalists. Thanks to Samara University for helping me realize my dream," Knaus Konstantin, an eighth-grader at MBOU Gymnasium No. 38 from Dzerzhinsk, shares his impressions of the competition.
In the first stage, 4,500 schoolchildren of 7–10 grades from all over Russia and 4 foreign countries took part in the competition: Albania, Belarus, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan. 500 people entered the second stage of the competition. As a result, only 25 participants became finalists!
"Flipping through social networks, I came across an interesting advertisement for a research competition, during which it was possible to go to Artek. The first stage turned out to be the most difficult for me, all the time waiting for the results after passing it, I did not let go of a feeling of fear and excitement, because one or two points might simply not be enough. But it cannot be said that in the second stage writing a research paper was much easier. After the announcement of the results, I saw myself in the top three finalists, my joy knew no bounds!" — Anna Trishch, MOE "Secondary School No. 30" Yaroslavl, 8th grade.
The final stage of the competition will be held on the basis of the Artek Sports Center from September 1 to September 22, 2024 as part of the thematic shift of Samara University, where participants will present their projects in full-time format, as well as get acquainted with the world of natural sciences already in practical classes with university teachers.
It is equally important that, in addition to a ticket to the Artek International Children’s Center, the finalists of the competition will receive 10 additional points to the amount of the Unified State Exam upon admission to Samara University!
"I learned about the competition through social media. The first stage caused me some difficulties in passing but I coped and scored the right number of points for testing. In the second stage, thanks to my supervisor, I managed. When the results came, I was very happy. My labors are not in vain! I want to enroll in Samara University, so I paid attention to this competition and tried to write a good paper." — Varvara Fedoseeva, GBOU SOSH p.g.t. Volzhsky, 10th grade.
The competition is included in the list of Olympiads and other intellectual competitions of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation.
