A new release of the Global Ranking “Three University Missions” has been published. In 2024, it ranked 2000 universities from 112 countries, including 152 participants representing Russia.

In the Russian part of the list, Lomonosov Moscow State University took 17th place, it is the best indicator among domestic universities. It is followed by St. Petersburg State University (49th place) and Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (54th place).

Samara National Research University entered the interval group 1101–1200 of the Global Ranking and the group 45–46 — among Russian universities.

In the Global Ranking, for the first time in eight years, the leader has changed: Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) took the 1st place, displacing Harvard University. As explained by the compilers of the Ranking, this happened due to increasing indicators of the group “Education.”

The project operator, the Association of Rating Compilers, announced improvement in statistics in 2024 for universities from the BRICS countries. “If we analyze representation of universities from the expanded list of BRICS countries in the ranking, there is a smooth increase in the share: in 2021, universities from BRICS countries accounted for 26% of the entire list, whereas in 2023 and 2024 — 29%. It is noteworthy that two thirds of the best BRICS universities — 389 out of 581 universities — are located in two countries: China and Russia,” inform the analytical materials.

The Moscow International University Ranking is a fundamentally new academic ranking that for the first time evaluates all three key missions of the University: education, science and interaction with society. The methodology of the rating was publicly discussed, with participation of over 100 universities. Objective criteria based on official data (including public reports from universities), as well as data from reputable international information providers, are used to compile the Ranking. The rating has successfully passed an independent audit by PricewaterhouseCoopers Audit, a member of the PwC global network.
