Students of Samara University took part in the International Conference "Physics.SPb", held in St. Petersburg from October 21 to 25, 2024, organized by the A.F. Ioffe Institute of Physics and Technology of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The conference has been held since the mid-1990s and in recent years has gathered about 400 participants from various regions of Russia, near and far abroad. The conference is traditionally attended by scientists from higher educational institutions and scientific organizations, as well as undergraduate and graduate students, leading researchers in various fields of physics and astronomy. This provides an opportunity to get to know the achievements of other scientific fields and gain experience from other researchers. This year, professors from leading universities of the country (MIPT, IFM, MSU, St. Petersburg State University) and abroad (Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, University of Western Australia, University of Montpellier) were invited to the conference. The Program Committee of the conference pays great attention not only to the fundamental, but also to the applied significance of the presented reports, which makes it possible to combine the entire spectrum of physical sciences, including astrophysics, plasma physics, solid state physics, semiconductor physics and biophysics, within the framework of one conference.
Our University was represented by: from the Institute of Informatics and Cybernetics, a graduate student of the 2nd year of study in the scientific specialty "Optics" Yuri Dmitrievich Ityaksov, a 2nd-year undergraduate (Biomedical Engineering) Mikhail Sergeevich Alekhin, and from the Institute of Natural and Mathematical Sciences, a 2nd-year undergraduate (Physics) Alexander Romanovich Bagrov.
At the conference, Yuri Ityaksov made a presentation on "An optical method for evaluating animal bone tissue with a single and double injection of a mineral bone component."
Mikhail Alekhin represented Samara University in the Optics and Spectroscopy section and made a presentation on "Optical methods for evaluating the composition of combined materials based on bacterial biocellulose". The research was carried out under the supervision of scientific supervisor Elena Vladimirovna Timchenko (Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Laser and Biotechnical Systems, Associate Professor of the Department of Biochemistry, Biotechnology and Bioengineering).
At the conference, Alexander Bagrov made a presentation on "Dynamics of entangled states in the three-qubit Tavis-Cummings model" (scientific supervisor: Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor of the Department of General and Theoretical Physics, leading researcher at the Scientific Research Center for Physics of Nonequilibrium Open Systems Evgeny Konstantinovich Bashkirov). The study was presented to a large number of scientific experts, among whom were N.S. Averkiev (A.F. Ioffe Institute of Physics and Technology), V.M. Ustinov (Scientific Research Center of Microelectronics of the Russian Academy of Sciences), A.V. Dunaev (I.S. Turgenev OSU), M.I. Dyakonov (Université Montpellier, France). This made it possible to get a professional assessment of the conducted research and see the possibilities of its development.
We asked the undergraduates to share their impressions.
Alexander Bagrov: "I am glad that I participated in the international conference "Physics.SPb". Participation in such events always provides an opportunity to make new acquaintances and gain invaluable experience. Meetings with other participants of the conference allowed me to expand my knowledge. It was especially interesting to listen to the reports of the invited speakers. I have only positive impressions of the conference, so in the future I plan to participate more in scientific events and expand my research work."
Mikhail Alekhin: "A large number of reports were heard at the meetings. The scale of the event itself is particularly striking, where the research of participants from all over the world was presented. This conference brings together the entire spectrum of physical sciences, and it's amazing! I would like to thank the organizers who provided an opportunity for bachelors and undergraduates to share the results of their research and learn new things!"
The abstracts of the participants of the International Conference "Physics.SPb" will be published in the journal of the A.F. Ioffe Institute of Physics and Technology.
After the conference, the undergraduates managed to walk around the northern capital of our country and take pictures at the Bronze Horseman, visit the Kazan Cathedral and the Hermitage. Mikhail Alekhin notes the architectural and stylistic diversity of the city: "St. Petersburg unites different cultures – what are the sphinxes, brought from Egypt in 1832, which, according to some calculations, are more than 4,500 thousand years old, located on the University Embankment. St. Petersburg is a city that you want to return to every time!"
