From October 30 to November 3, 2024, Samara National Research University participated in three major events in China. This participation became possible as part of the program of events aimed at developing collaboration in the field of education between Russian universities and Chinese educational institutions, for the purpose of attracting foreign enrollees to study at Samara University.
Samara University’s delegation included Sergey Goryainov, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Head of the Contingent Formation and Support Office, and Ekaterina Kopshukova, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor at the Department of English Philology.
Last week, over 95 thousand people’s attention was focused on the major event in the world of education – the Exhibition “China Education Expo 2024” (CEE 2024) organized by the Chinese Association of Education for International Exchange (CEAIE), at the China National Convention Center (CNCC) in Beijing. This is the most important event in Southeast Asia on foreign education, which has become a world-class central platform for attracting Chinese enrollees and discussing cooperation agreements between educational institutions. This year, 380 educational organizations from 38 countries and regions of the world took part in the CEE 2024 Exhibition, with 18 countries to present their national pavilions.
Liu Limin, President of the Chinese Association of International Educational Exchanges under the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, personally visited the exposition and addressed the participants from Russia with his welcoming speech. T. B. Urzhumtseva, Director of the Russian Cultural Centre in Beijing, and I. A. Pozdnyakov, Counsellor for Education at Russia’s Embassy in China, the representative of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia in China, arrived to introduce and support the Russian delegation.
Samara University’s participation was made possible due to the work of Russia’s Ministry of Education and Science and Rossotrudnichestvo – the Russian Cultural Centre in Beijing. The greater part of the Russian pavilion was the exposition to bring together 19 leading universities and 10 Russian-Chinese Associations of industry universities.
During the Exhibition, visitors got acquainted with Samara University’s educational programs, features and rules of admission, voiced their own concerns and wishes. Within the Exhibition framework, discussions on expanding the range of international cooperation in the field of providing various educational services, namely, on the prospects for implementing double degree programs and developing Russian-Chinese innovative cooperation in the field of higher technical and humanitarian education, as well as on issues of artificial intelligence, universities’ research work and transferring their academic achievements to industry, were held at numerous forums. Development and implementation of individual training programs, grant and scholarship support, winter and summer schools, as well as internships in China, were of particularly great importance.
Before the start of the educational exhibition in Beijing, CEE Beijing 2024, representatives of Samara National Research University took part in the meeting of Russian universities’ representatives, held at the Russian Cultural Centre in Beijing (Rossotrudnichestvo’s Representative Office in China). Dmitry Evdokukhin, Deputy Head of the Department of International Cooperation of Russia’s Ministry of Education and Science, welcomed the universities’ representatives. Igor Pozdnyakov, Counsellor for Education at Russia’s Embassy in China, the representative of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia in China, and Lev Eremeikin, Counselor at Russia’s Embassy in China, Head of the Consular Department, also spoke during the event. Tatyana Urzhumtseva, Director of the Russian Cultural Centre in Beijing, presented the Russian Language and Culture Competition “Golden Key”.
According to those present, the speeches on the start of the quota campaign made by Aleksandr Guptor, Chief Specialist-Expert at Rossotrudnichestvo’s Representative Office in China, and the businessman Konstantin Gaivoronsky were especially relevant. He shared with the participants recipes for successful work with Chinese partners, presenting to the audience 30 recruitment agencies, cooperation with which will attract foreign enrollees to study at Russian universities under Bachelor’s, Master’s and Postgraduate programs.
At the end of the program, on November 3, 2024, Samara University’s representatives visited Tangshan Yuping School in the city of Tangshan. Samara University’s delegation were warmly welcomed by Zhang Shuoing, Vice President of the school, Xiang Jiuhai, Vice President of the school, Wang Lin, President of the International Office, Yan Wengo, Executive Director of the International Office, and other senior managers.
During the business visit, Samara University’s staff presented educational programs and spoke about the opportunities for studying at Samara National Research University. The grand ceremony of awarding diplomas of the International Online Subject Olympiad of Samara University for students of grades 10–12 was held, as well.
“Attracting talented Chinese youth to Russia, the Samara Region, for the purpose of studying under Samara University’s educational programs, remains one of our priorities. Such meetings make it possible for us to strengthen partnerships for further international cooperation and attract the best enrollees to Samara University’s programs. At present, the cooperation agreement with the Tangshan School is being discussed, which will be signed in March-April of 2025”, said Sergey Goryainov, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Head of the Contingent Formation and Support Office.
The measures taken to attract foreign enrollees to study at Samara University indicate the rapidly growing Chinese youth’s interest in studying abroad, including at Samara National Research University. Already currently, there are over 100 Chinese students at Samara University. Following the results of the events, the experts discussed a number of issues related to implementation of joint educational programs with Chinese universities for training bachelors and masters, academic exchanges between universities, as well as the opportunity for Chinese students to participate in Samara University’s international summer and winter schools, promotion of Russian education in China, interaction of Rossotrudnichestvo and Russian universities, as well as admission of foreign students under the quota granted by the Government of the Russian Federation.
