On October 17–20, 2024, in the territory of the Recreation Centre “Raduga”, the traditional field school of Samara University’s Council of Young Scientists and Specialists “Science Pop 2024” took place. The school program included both educational and project tracks that this year were dedicated to developing Student Scientific Society (SSS) of Samara University’s Institutes and Faculties.

Steampunk was chosen as the thematic area for the cultural component of this year’s school, so the school participants were divided into 4 squads with appropriate names, with two, three, or even four SSS teams to be included in each squad: the squad “Mechaniki” (curated by Stanislav Sergunin) consisted of representatives of the Astronomical Club “Vega”, the SSS of the Faculty of Physics “Quantum Space” and the SSS of IEPP (Institute of Engines and Power Plants). The squad “Archivists” (curated by Angelina Kapkaeva) united the Electronics Club “Kontur”, the SSS of the IIC (Institute of Informatics and Cybernetics) and the Youth Aerospace School. The squad “Aeronauts” (“Vozdukhoplavateli”) (curated by Daria Druzhinina) brought together for joint work the SSS of the Faculty of Biology, the SSS of the IEM (Institute of Economics and Management) and several representatives of the Faculty of Sociology. The squad “Alchemists” (curated by Anastasia Nefedova) was formed from the SSS of the Faculty of History and the SSS of the Faculty of Sociology.

During Thursday, Friday and Saturday, the school participants worked on a strategy for developing their SSSs, to be helped by master classes from invited speakers.

At the master class on writing scientific articles, held by Elena Shikhanova, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor at the Department of Social Systems and Law, the participants were given practical recommendations on the structure and content of scientific publications.

Anastasia Bogomolova, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Sociology of Political and Regional Processes, curator of the SSS of the SYSS (Council of Young Scientists and Specialists), helped the participants understand specific features of the information support of a SSS, sharing her advice on how to interest the audience in the Internet space.

Evgeny Filinov, Associate Professor at the Department of Aircraft Engine Theory, spoke about scholarships and grants for scientific research, sharing his experience and recommendations on establishing new youth scientific laboratories, which was useful for the participants seeking to actively develop their own scientific fields; and discussing details of grant support made it possible for the young scientists to better understand the financing facilities and the requirements to be made for the applications.

Ruslan Pikalov, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Theoretical Mechanics, shared with the school participants his secrets of successful public speaking. Ruslan Sergeevich not only held his master class, but also talked about Science Slam.

“This year we have gathered a warm company of students, which includes not only those who are engaged in scientific activities in different departments of the University. Some of the participants have already known each other, but there are also completely new participants. As a result, 4 days later and thanks to the hot bonfire of unity arranged by the cultural service of going home, it seems to me that we came back as a friendly team ready to implement new ideas, including interdisciplinary ones!” said Yulia Dmitrievna Novikova, Head of the field event, the SYSS Chairperson.
