Samara National Research University, for the third time, gathers historians and archivists of the country in Samara, offering to discuss the tasks faced by archival services in the age of information technology. Scientists and archivists from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Saratov, Tver, Veliky Novgorod, Togliatti, Samara and other cities took part in the Third All-Russian Scientific Conference of Historians and Archivists "Historical Science and Archives in the XXI Century."
"A historian cannot work without an archive. Going deep into the archive's collections, you can find a huge number of sources that help not only reconstruct any historical events, but also shed light on a person's life. Historical science has now moved from the macro level to the micro level. Historians are interested in a personality, how it survives in the conditions of the evolutionary development of the country, what new practices it learns in the face of change, how the relationship between a person and the government is built," emphasized Petr Kabytov.
The conference was attended by Maksim Batshev, Head of the Center for Information Support and Documentation of Heritage at the D.S. Likhachev Russian Research Institute of Cultural and Natural Heritage (Moscow), Svetlana Trifonova, researcher at the Archive of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Evgeny Malinkin, Head of the Department for the Use of Archival Documents at SOGASPI, and specialists from the Russian State Archive in Samara.
A collection of materials from the scientific conference "Historical Science and Archives in the 21st Century" has been published based on the conference materials. It includes 55 articles. The publications are divided into thematic blocks: "Archival science and archives in Russia: history and modernity"; "Actual problems of source studies of national history"; "Personal funds of state archives as a historical and informational resource"; "Problems of Russian history in archival documents"; "Problems of historiography and methodology of modern historical research"; "On the 90th anniversary of the birth of Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Lenar Vasilyevich Khramkov (1934–2009)".
