VIII International Conference "Dynamics and Vibroacoustics of Machines" (DVM’2026) concludes at Samara University

    16.09.2026 1970-01-01

Last week, Samara National Research University hosted the VIII International Scientific and Technical Conference "Dynamics and Vibroacoustics of Machines" (DVM'2026). Held biennially, the conference is dedicated to theoretical and experimental research in machine dynamics and control, the development of pneumatic and hydraulic systems and actuators, mechatronic modules, and the mitigation of noise and vibration issues.

The conference was organized by Samara University with the support of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Samara Region, and several leading research institutions and enterprises in the aerospace industry.

The high scientific standard of the event was ensured by its Program Committee, which included 6 full members and 2 corresponding members of the RAS. They represented the Blagonravov Institute of Mechanical Engineering (RAS), the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI) named after Professor N. E. Zhukovsky, the Baranov Central Institute of Aviation Motor Development (CIAM), the State Research Institute of Aviation Systems (GosNIIAS), as well as leading universities in Russia and China, and heads of design and research divisions at JSC "Central Design Bureau of Marine Engineering Rubin," JSC "Concern NPO Avrora," and PJSC "UEC-Kuznetsov."

The committee was co-chaired by RAS Academician Evgeny Shakhmatov, Scientific Supervisor of Samara University, and RAS Vice-President Sergey Chernyshev, Scientific Supervisor of the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI). The Organizing Committee also included scientists and faculty from Samara University, alongside representatives from Samara Polytechnic University, LLC "PKF TSK," and LLC "Gazprom Transgaz Samara."

Opening the plenary session, Vladimir Bogatyrev, Rector of Samara University, highlighted the broad geographical representation of the conference participants, spanning Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Zhukovsky, Izhevsk, Kazan, Korolev, Krasnoyarsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Omsk, Orel, Samara, Saratov, Chelyabinsk, Perm, Ufa, as well as China and Uzbekistan. He also noted the expanded scope of discussions: compared to the previous conference, the number of thematic sections grew from six to eight, with the introduction of a new track: "Artificial Intelligence in Machine Dynamics."

RAS Academician Viktor Soifer, President of Samara University, paid tribute to the legacy of RAS Academician Vladimir Shorin, the founder of the scientific field of machine dynamics and vibroacoustics.

"In 1982, within this field, Vladimir Pavlovich established the Department of Automatic Control Systems for Power Units (ACSPU). He began this work with a small group of young staff members, many of whom are present here today, now holding high academic titles. This example shows us how scientific fields, initially exploratory and fundamental in nature, become highly applied," noted Academician Soifer.

The scientific school "Dynamic Processes in Engines and Power Units," founded by Academician Shorin, has been ranked among Russia's leading scientific schools since 2005.

"One could say that this conference on machine dynamics and vibroacoustics is dedicated to 'engineering music,' the 'music of machines'—their unique language that we strive to hear and understand. Samara University is one of the recognized leaders in this field. Vibroacoustics helps us combat noise and vibrations. Vibroacoustic methods allow us to diagnose the condition of an assembly and predict its future performance. I am confident that the knowledge and experience shared by the conference participants will resonate in your practical activities, helping to increase machine efficiency and eliminate harmful noise," addressed Mark Shleenkov, Acting Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Samara Region, to the scientists, engineers, and students.

Ekaterina Kuzmicheva, Deputy Chairman of the Samara Regional Duma and Chair of the Committee on Legislation, Legality, and Law and Order, noted that Samara University, comprising 8 institutes with over 200 Doctors of Sciences and 700 Candidates of Sciences, undoubtedly serves as a benchmark for all higher education institutions in the region.

The plenary session program included welcoming remarks from RAS Vice-President Sergey Chernyshev, as well as presentations by RAS Academician Evgeny Shakhmatov on Samara University's scientific school in machine dynamics and vibroacoustics, and by Professor Yuri Nozhnitsky, Deputy General Director of the Baranov Central Institute of Aviation Motor Development (CIAM), on the advancement of vibration diagnostic methods for aero-gas turbine engine blades.

According to Alexander Igolkin, Co-Chairman of the Organizing Committee and Professor at the Academician V. P. Shorin Department of Automatic Control Systems of Power Units, the three-day program featured 118 sectional presentations across 8 thematic tracks, including 70 in-person and 38 online presentations, in addition to the plenary talks.

Tatyana Mironova, a member of the Organizing Committee and Associate Professor at the same Department, reported that the best presentations in each section were awarded diplomas of three degrees. Samara University and the Blagonravov Institute of Mechanical Engineering (RAS) each received two 1st-degree diplomas (bringing their total awards to 9 and 3, respectively).

A New Frontier: AI in Machine Dynamics

Vadim Pechenin, Associate Professor at the Department of Engine Manufacturing Technologies, chaired Section 8: "Artificial Intelligence in Machine Dynamics," a track introduced at the conference for the first time.

"The main theme of the presentations in our section was the use of artificial intelligence for predictive diagnostics and determining the remaining useful life of objects subjected to vibration. Out of 12 presentations, only two were from out-of-town participants so far, but they were of a very high level. We hope that at the next conference, our section will attract more speakers from Russia's leading scientific centers," said Vadim Pechenin.

Interest in this new section from colleagues in other cities is already significant. Researchers from South Ural State University (Chelyabinsk) were awarded a 1st-degree diploma for the best presentation, while representatives from the capital's Blagonravov Institute of Mechanical Engineering (RAS), a key participant in the conference, received a 2nd-degree diploma.

The conference program harmoniously combined professional and cultural-educational activities. On the first day, following the plenary and sectional sessions, guests were invited on a sightseeing tour of Samara and a river cruise along the Volga. On the second day, they visited the university's Aircraft Engine History Center, and the conference concluded with a tour of Samara University's educational facilities and research laboratories.
