On September 29-30, 2025, the Department of German Philology of Samara University and the Center for German Studies of the Department of European and American Literatures of the Modern Period at the A.M. Gorky Institute of World Literature of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IMLI RAN, Moscow), in cooperation with other universities across the country, held the Second All-Russian Online Conference "German-Language Prose of the 21st Century: Main Trends and Artistic Directions." The participants discussed current issues in the study of modern German-language prose of the 21st century, including main directions, artistic strategies, and primary scientific and methodological approaches to studying the works of established writers and young authors from the perspective of their connection to tradition, aesthetic and social significance, and their reception within the German-language and broader cultural literary space.

30 presenters from 15 Russian cities (8 from universities in the Samara region) presented the results of their research on modern German-language literature. Particular interest was aroused by the presentations of Samara Germanists and colleagues from the Department of German Philology of Samara University (Dr. G.V. Kuchumova – conference organizer, Dr. E.V. Bespalova, PhD, Associate Professor N.V. Barabanova, PhD, Associate Professor Yu.A. Bakulina, graduate student V.S. Sudareva).

The presentations featured rich research material in both literary studies and linguistics, which traditionally characterizes the scientific profile and research potential of the Department of German Philology.

The conference demonstrated the close cooperation of German philologists from universities across Russia: from Kaliningrad, St. Petersburg, Moscow, Saratov, Ufa to Tambov and Voronezh.

The conference materials are available on the IMLI RAN website.
