Aircraft Engine History Center (AEHC) is engaged in the collection, restoration and demonstration of modern and historical aircraft engines.

The AEHC has all types of air-jet aircraft engines (TJE, RDFTE, HPT, ABTE, PFE, TSE, RAMJET), as well as auxiliary and ground power plants, their drawings, technical descriptions and other documentation. This the world's largest collection of Soviet/Russian gas turbine engines, where advanced engineering thought implemented in metal is concentrated, is evidence of Russia's outstanding achievements in one of the most complex science-intensive areas of human activity – aerospace engine building. The developments of all domestic engine design bureaus are presented here. The AEHC collection includes rocket engines. AEHC also has piston aircraft engines.

AEHC is engaged in research on the history of creation, patterns of development and operation of aviation GTE; evaluation of the activities of aircraft engine design bureaus; analysis of design methods and design of new GTE.

In the study of the development of aircraft engine designs in the AEHC, the main focus is on identifying developmental or genetic relationships; these relationships are usually established by comparing several successive states of a developing object (engine modifications). This approach, a comparative historical method supplemented by structural and functional techniques, makes it possible to create a family tree of types, classes and families of engines or their elements, allowing you to trace the process of generating ideas underlying the creation of an engine or family of engines.

For example, the developed system, which includes 15 simple conditional graphic elements of the GTE design, allows you to graphically represent a GTE circuit of any type. This makes it possible at the initial design stage at the circuit level to carry out a design analysis, identify the main power flows and select engine elements that ensure the implementation of structural and power connections of the engine.

Based on this system, for the first time in the country, AEHC prepared and published a textbook – reference guide on parameters, design schemes and application of most domestic gas turbine engines created over half a century.

AEHC creates computer models of new engines and structures that have not been preserved; forms and uses the information field of engines and their placement spaces during production, operation, repair and demonstration in the "virtual education" system.

The presence in AEHC of a large library of technical descriptions, drawings, photographs and other documentation on engines, a significant amount of materials on the activities of domestic and foreign design bureaus and firms engaged in the development and manufacture of aircraft engines, made it possible, using modern computing technology, to create a computer data bank on the parameters and structural elements of the GTE, as well as to develop systems, allowing to analyze the design features of the gas turbine engine and predict the ways of their development.
