The Faculty of Sociology was established over 30 years ago, and made its first graduation in 1994. The establishment of the Faculty was made possible by the Scientific School of Sociology of Labor and Management formed by that time on the basis of the Kuibyshev Sociological Laboratory (heads - Molevich E.F. and Tukumtsev B.G.). Throughout its existence, our faculty is constantly developing, offering students new specialties, profiles, modern and relevant disciplines.
The teaching staff is undoubtedly the keystone of success for the Faculty.
The significant part of the Faculty are its graduates. Among the teachers are Doctors and Candidates of Sciences, Academician of the Academy of Social Sciences, Associate Research Fellows of the Federal Research Sociological Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, as well as the Chairman and members of the Research Committee on Labor Sociology of the Russian Society of Sociologists.
The Faculty trains undergraduate and graduate students in the following fields of study: Sociology, Social Work and Philosophy. Curriculum development is ongoing and opening new master's programs. Students are involved in scientific work under the teachers’ direction, and also take an active part in the social life of the University.
Faculty teachers carry out scientific work, participation in conferences and research projects that bring together scientists from different regions of Russia. Examples of such projects are “Life Strategies for New Working Class Youth” (supported by the Russian Science Foundation in 2018-2022), “Features of the Civilization Path of Russia: Asian Russia in the Context of Colonialism/Modernity (on the example of the oirat-kalmyks and Tuvans" (supported by the Russian Science Foundation in 2022-2023), "Theater of Social Talent" (supported by the President’s Foundation for Cultural Initiatives in 2022-2023), organization of sections at the annual conference of St. Petersburg Association of Sociologists, Sociological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences - department of the FSRC’s RAS.
The result of work of the teaching staff of our Faculty is the demand for graduates in the labor market not only in Samara, but also in Russia and in other countries. Graduates in the field of study "Sociology" can work as analysts in the Information and Analysis Departments of Administration, in Sociological Centers; Marketing Specialists in Organizations and Marketing Agencies; specialists in organizing and conducting sociological and marketing research; landsat field supervisor; specialists in HR Departments, Recruiting Agencies; in Educational Institutions of Secondary and Higher Education and many other places.
Graduates in the field of study "Social work" are in demand as specialists in social work in the Social services centers, Social Rehabilitation Centers, Family and Child Welfare Centres; as consultants in the Ministry of Social Demographic and Family Policy of the Samara Region, the Public Chamber of the Samara Region, etc.
