On April 12, 2013 small spacecraft “AIST” developed by SSAU students and staff was launched to the Earth orbit from Baikonur Cosmodrome as additional payload to Bion-M spacecraft.

On April 21, 2013 AIST” successfully undocked from Bion-M spacecraft and moved to its own orbit. This is the first time this type of launch was used which is a significant achievement of Samara aerospace cluster.
Currently SSAU develops the project of small spacecraft AIST-2 designed for Earth remote sensing purpose.
