According to Russian New Agency TASS, the names of winners of the Scopus Award Russia 2016 awarded to the most cited scientist for their contributions to the development of national science were announced in Yekaterinburg.
Two of the nine winners represent Samara University.
Nicholay Kazanskiy, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor of Samara University Department of Technical Cybernetics, Head of the Institute of Image Processing Systems of the Russian Academy of Sciences- a branch of “Federal Research and Development Centre “Crystallography and Photonics” of the Russian Academy of Sciences, was awarded the prize “For contribution to the development of computer science at the national and international level”.
Vladislav Blatov, Professor of Samara University Department of Physical Chemistry and Chromatography, was awarded “For contribution to the development of science in the field of chemistry”.
Previously Samara scientists have been won this prestigious award. In 2014, Viktor Soifer, President of Samara State Aerospace University in collaboration with Sergey Zakharov, Railway Research Institute (VNIIZhT) won this prestigious award for outstanding contribution to the development of fundamental science within the framework of technological platform "Intelligent high-speed rail transport”.

International Scopus Award recognizes the contribution of an individual author in the development of national science by measuring the number of published scientific articles and citations in journals. Number of published articles is indexed using the SCOPUS database -the world's largest multi-disciplinary abstracting database, which contains over 19 thousand names of scientific, technical and medical journals from the 5 thousand international publishers, including Russian.
The prize Scopus Award was first awarded in China in 2004. And since then, it has become a tradition. For 9 years the most published and cited authors are awarded the prise in Latin America, Asia, Europe, and also in Russia.
Ceremony of awarding the Scopus Award Russia received the support of academicians of RAS, heads of scientific institutes, rectors of leading universities, as well as representatives of ministries and agencies in charge of science. They took an active part in the preceding discussion on the prospects of Russian science development.
