On May 9 the authoritative British edition Times Higher Education (THE) published the 5th annual THE Emerging Economies University Rankings 2018.
In total 27 Russian Universities are recorded in the ranking, 17 of which are Russian Academic Excellence Project 5-100 participants.
Samara University has made significant progress ascending from the 251-300 band to 123. Such impressive results influenced the Russian representation of Universities – Project 5-100 participants in the top-200 places of THE Emerging Economies University Rankings: from 10 in 2016 to 11 in 2018.
Times Higher Education experts note, that commerce and foreign students stimulated such a powerful breakthrough of Samara National Research University.
"Samara University received positive dynamics in all key indicators, but especially according to the criteria" percentage of international students " the university showed the dynamics of + 26% and according to " industry income (knowledge transfer)" the increase was + 15%. – said Vladimir Bogatyrev, Vice-rector for Educational and Foreign Affairs of Samara University about the key factors in the success of the University. – The University creates all the conditions for foreign students: we invite leading foreign teachers to give classes in English, we increase the number of English language educational programs. Consequently, the number of foreign employees is also growing, the university is actively moving along the path of internationalization. As for the commercialization of the University's developments, an integral estimation of the volumes received annually from scientific research and high-tech developments, as well as from basic research projects of the University, is about one billion rubles. Anchor partners of the university in this direction are the enterprises of the aerospace industry."
According to the opinion of the Vice-rector for Educational and Foreign Affairs , a high position in Times Higher Education Emerging Economies University Rankings 2018 is also important, because it will stimulate the attraction of both Russian and foreign talented matriculants to the University. This will lead to an increase of the passing score, which directly affects the level of education in the University.
The results achieved in THE Emerging Economies University Rankings 2018 show that a systematic approach to the modernization and globalization of leading Russian universities gives significant results in promoting of Russian Higher Education System in the international arena.

THE Emerging Economies University Rankings 2018 covers 378 leading universities. The Universities from 42 countries, including China, India, South Africa, Brazil, Turkey, Qatar, Cyprus, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, etc. were analyzed in the ranking. Its methodology is based on 13 performance indicators including teaching (the learning environment), research (volume, income and reputation), citations (research influence), international outlook (staff, students and research), industry income (knowledge transfer).
