The Samara University started admission of students to the educational programs of the “Digital Department” created as part of the joint federal project of the Ministry of Education and Science and the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation. In the framework of the first admission of 2022, the University took 1,300 students, and in 2023 academic year, the opportunity will be presented to 1,500 young people. That said, the number of educational programs in a new academic year will increase from 6 to 10.

Over one academic year students will be able to get an extra — “digital” — qualification in IT to complements their main degree. Based on their primary training and the chosen program the audience will learn how to code, to manage IT projects; they will master web design and 3D modeling technologies, they will dive deeper into the additive manufacturing digital technologies, so that ultimately they could get a new qualification and a professional retraining diploma.

“Students of all directions of training or degrees can enroll and study — those from the humanitarian, scientific and engineering departments, both from our University and other establishments of higher education. This year, we have increased the number of programs from 6 to 10, and their duration is 252 to 272 academic hours. The “Digital Department” is for Bachelor’s Degree students starting from the 2nd year and the specialist’s degree students starting from the 3rd year. Requests for admission can be submitted up to August 31, and the training will start in September 2023,” Andrei Gavrilov, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs of the Samara University, said.

The educational programs will be offered to students based on the main directions of their training, and one can come to the training even with a zero level of knowledge in the additional profession they are interested in.
At the end of training the following qualifications can be obtained:
  • IT Project Manager;
  • Data Analyst;
  • Web Designer;
  • Frontend Programmer;
  • Frontend Developer;
  • Specialist in Solution Development and Follow-Up on the 1C: Enterprise platform;
  • Specialist in Automated Design of Technological Processes;
  • Programmer of CNC-controlled Metal Chipping Machines;

For example, a graduate student qualified as a Data Analyst can interpret the content of modern scientific researches in the field of Mathematics and Computer Sciences, apply programming languages and programming tools for process automation in their professional activities. Also, an analyst can assess strengths and weaknesses of new technological solutions and reasonably apply the modern analytical systems and tools.

According to the program developers, the skills obtained by the young people can be applied in any IT area and enable career growth of the graduate student in their field.

Besides, this year a list of IT programs has been extended to include a set of programs on modern additive manufacturing. As a result, during their training students will be able to obtain unique skills, including churning out goods made with the use of additive technologies, the use prototyping methods in their work, organization of work on coordination and approval of the obtained layouts with the manufacturing and marketing units, as well as creation of new products, 3D printer operation, process control from the model development to the end product.

Training at the “Digital Department” is focused on the practice as much as possible. IT companies were involved in development of educational programs. Along with the university teachers, they will take part in the educational process. Further employment can be offered to the best alumni.

Training at the “Digital Department” will be arranged in a mixed regime — partially online, partially offline (based on the training program).
