The Interfax International Information Group has presented the annual National University Ranking for 2025. Lomonosov Moscow State University took the first place in the rating, MEPhI took the second place, and MIPT took the third one.
In total, in 2025, the experts assessed activities of 389 Russian universities, including 29 national research universities, 10 federal universities, 33 flagship universities, as well as 145 universities participating in the Program “Priority 2030”. Activities of 22 non-governmental universities were analyzed, as well.
In 2025, Samara University rose to the 38th–40th places in the consolidated ranking and is still one of the top 100 universities in the country.
The activity of universities was generally assessed according to six parameters: brand, education, research, social environment, cooperation, innovation and entrepreneurship. So, in the section “Innovation/Entrepreneurship” the university rose to the 25th–26th place, in the section “Brand” – to the 30th–31st place, and in the section “Research” – to the 45th place.

The National University Ranking (NUR) project has been implemented by the Interfax Group since 2010. Its goals are assessing activities of a modern Russian university that meets international standards; developing a communication channel between the country’s academic community, mass audiences and business; searching for new methods and technologies for assessing activities of institutions in the field of education, research and development, innovative and socio-humanitarian development.
The assessment was carried out, based on processing the data from questionnaires submitted by universities, available public data posted by educational institutions on their websites, public data from the information resources of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, as well as the data from the information and analytical systems “SPARK-Interfax” and “SCAN-Interfax”.
