From November 27 to 29, 2025, the XXV International Scientific Conference "Professional Culture of the Future Specialist: Thinking Visually – in Engineering, Natural Sciences and Humanities" was held at Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University.

The conference traditionally unites philosophers working on problems of engineering knowledge from Russia, China, Germany, Belarus, Armenia, and other countries.

The Director of the Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities, Professor Alexander Nesterov, delivered a report titled "Vertical and Horizontal Progress in the Context of the Philosophy of Technology" at the plenary session. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of preserving the idea of vertical progress in the educational space, which implies the sequential growth of human self-awareness through the technical expression of reflection.

Associate Professor of the Department of Philosophy, Anna Demina, chaired a round table "Visions and Views on Progress" with Chinese, Russian, and German participants, dedicated to the problem of evaluating theories of progress. The conference proceedings have been published in the regular publication "Lecture Notes in Networks and Systems" by Springer.
