On March 01-09, Samara University’s delegation took part in the Educational Exhibition "Russian Universities Are the Best Choice" in Vietnam. The event was organized by the Representative Office of Rossotrudnichestvo in Vietnam as part of the long-term project "Universities of Russia", aimed at popularizing Russian education. The delegation from Samara University was represented by Sergey Goryainov, Head of the Contingent Formation and Support Office, and Veronika Donets, Public Relations Specialist at the Mobility and Recruiting Department.
The exhibition gathered over 2,000 participants and became a centre for strengthening educational cooperation between Russia and Vietnam, giving Vietnamese youth a chance to learn about the training programs, opportunities and prospects that Russian universities offer to Vietnamese applicants. The opening ceremony was held at the Russian House in Hanoi.
The Exhibition program consisted of a number of events in various cities and provinces of Vietnam – Thai Nguyen Province (the city of Hanoi), Nghe An Province (Vinh), Hai Duong Province – and included several lines:
· work with schools in Vietnam, including Samara University’s presentations to students and meetings with heads of educational institutions,
· activities to organize cooperation with universities in Vietnam, in which sessions with representatives of universities and the expert community were arranged,
· the business visit of the Russian universities’ delegations to the Ministry of Education and Personnel Training of Vietnam.
So, on March 04-06, Samara University’s delegation visited the Fan Boy Chau Specialized School (the city of Vinh) and the Hai Duong Specialized School (Hai Duong Province), where the university staff presented the educational programs and talked about the opportunities for studying at Samara University. The key issues for discussion with the Administrations of the schools were the mechanisms for promoting Russian higher education among Vietnamese schoolchildren, as well as the cultural and linguistic adaptation of applicants through organizing the Russian-language preparatory courses, subject intensive courses, summer and winter schools and competitive events.
Besides, organizing the advanced training courses for Vietnamese teachers in teaching Russian was noted as the important area of work. Representatives of Vietnamese educational institutions highly appreciated the capacities of Samara University and expressed their interest in developing cooperation. During the meetings, preliminary agreements were reached on the areas of joint work and the signing of cooperation agreements.
"The atmosphere of the meetings with the Vietnamese partners was very constructive and friendly", said Veronica Donets, Public Relations Specialist. "We see great potential for developing our cooperation with Vietnam in various educational and scientific fields. We are confident that these meetings will mark the beginning of a new chapter in our international relations and will bring fruitful results both for Samara University and for our Vietnamese partners".
As part of the Exhibition program, Samara University’s representatives also held meetings with representatives of Thai Nguyen University and Krasnaya Zvezda University (Hai Duong Province). The key focus of the negotiations was the possibilities of implementing online educational programs and double degree programs. Considerable attention was paid to the issues of developing academic mobility and exchange programs for students and teachers. The meeting participants expressed mutual interest in increasing the number of student exchanges, which will allow Vietnamese and Russian students to gain unique international experience, broaden their horizons and strengthen intercultural ties.
"Samara University has extensive experience in interacting with foreign universities for the purpose of implementing joint educational programs at the bachelor's and master's degrees. The Vietnamese partners expressed their need for Russian language teachers and interest in joint scientific research in the field of information technology, as well as in participating in joint educational programs. We are ready to admit Vietnamese students to study under the Russian Government’s quotas, as well as implement joint projects that help strengthen ties between Samara University and educational organizations in Vietnam", noted Sergey Goryainov, Head of the Contingent Formation and Support Office.
On March 7, Samara University’s delegation took part in the meeting at the Ministry of Education and Personnel Training of Vietnam. Special attention was paid to the scholarship, language and adaptation support for Vietnamese students studying in Russia.
On the same day, the Russian House in Hanoi hosted the Expert Session "Career Support for Graduates. Problems. Solutions. Prospects". The Session was purposed for promoting the successful professional integration of Vietnamese graduates who have received high-quality Russian education in the dynamically developing Vietnamese labour market.
Vladimir Murashkin, Director of the Russian House, opened the session, noting the importance of educational exchange and emphasizing the provision by the Russian Government of 1.000 quota places for Vietnamese students through Rossotrudnichestvo. He noted that this effort is aimed at maintaining quality education and expanding opportunities for the youth of the two countries.
For Samara University, Vietnam is one of its key partners in the Asian region. Samara is home to one of the largest Vietnamese communities in the Volga region, and many of the community members are students or graduates of Samara University. In particular, Nguyen Thanh Binh, a postgraduate at Samara University’s Institute of Engine and Power Plant Engineering, provided online support to the delegation for his compatriots, sharing his story and impressions of studying in Samara: "Since my childhood, I dreamed of working in the field of aviation, and therefore chose Samara University, because I knew that in Russia, it had the best engineering training for specialists in this field. I am going to finish my studies and return to Vietnam to make my dream a reality, and the education I received at Samara University will help me in this!"
The interest of Vietnamese youth and the partners in cooperation with Russian universities indicates broad opportunities for organizing international activities of Samara University in Vietnam, in terms of working with schools and universities.
