Citizens of the following countries may enter Russia with the purpose of study without a visa:
  • Abkhazia
  • Azerbaijan
  • Armenia
  • Belarus
  • Georgia
  • Kazakhstan
  • Kyrgyzstan
  • Moldova
  • Tajikistan
  • Uzbekistan
  • Ukraine
  • South Ossetia

Citizens of other countries must obtain a visa to enter Russia.

The list of consular offices of the Russian Federation in foreign countries, their addresses and contacts are presented at the official portal of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

  1. An invitation confirms the applicant's purpose of arrival in Russia and is a required part of the visa application. To obtain an invitation to enter the Russian Federation for study in the bachelor's, specialist's, master's, and postgraduate programs of Samara University (hereinafter referred to as the University), which have state accreditation, please contact Mobility and Recruitment Department.
  2. To obtain an invitation to enter the Russian Federation for the purpose of study, the validity of the foreign citizen's passport must be at least 18 months from the date of the planned entry into the Russian Federation. The passport must have at least 4 pages for affixing a visa and entry and exit stamps.
  3. Based on an invitation, you can get a single-entry study visa. This visa allows a foreign citizen to enter Russia once during a certain period of time (up to 90 days). A single-entry study visa can be obtained at an embassy or consulate of the Russian Federation in the country of citizenship. If a foreign citizen applies for a visa in a country other than the country of citizenship, then to obtain an invitation, he/she will need to provide the University with the original notarized translation into Russian of a temporary residence permit (TRP) or residence permit (RP) valid in the country where the visa is issued. The validity period of the TRP or RP must be no less than the validity period of the visa invitation (90 days). A visa in this country is not accepted as a proof of temporary residence. 

  • A single-entry study visa allows a foreign student to enter Russia once during a certain period of time (up to 90 days). A single-entry study visa can be issued on the basis of an invitation from the University to enter the Russian Federation. 
  • A multiple-entry study visa allows a foreign citizen to enter Russia multiple times. A multiple-entry visa is issued only in Russia after arrival at the University.
  • A migration card is a document issued at the border upon entry into the Russian Federation. It contains information about the foreign citizen (last name, first name, citizenship, date of birth, number of identification document, visa information and duration of stay), as well as the date of border crossing and the purpose of entry into the Russian Federation.  
  • Notification of arrival (registration slip) is a document confirming the legality of a foreign citizen's stay in the Russian Federation. The document contains information about a foreign citizen, a host organization or person, a place of stay and permitted period of stay in the Russian Federation, and the seal of the territorial body of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia that the notification has been accepted and registered.   
  • Documents on completion of obligatory procedures of medical examination, fingerprinting, and photographing of foreign citizen:
    • a card of fingerprinting;
    • a medical certificate confirming the absence of infectious diseases that pose a danger to others; 
    • a medical report confirming the absence of the fact of use of narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances without a doctor's prescription or new potentially dangerous psychoactive substances and their metabolites;
    • a certificate of absence of HIV infection.
  • A valid voluntary health insurance policy is obligatory for the entire period of study at the University. 

Important! Always carry your passport with a visa, migration card and registration slip with you.
