Samara National Research University has entered TOP-300 THE BRICS & Emerging Economies Rankings 2017 for the first time this year.
For this rating, experts of Times Higher Education (THE) Magazine analyzed indicators of best universities from 50 countries.
Phil Baty, editor of THE World University Rankings, commented: “Entering the THE regional rating is not a simple task. Universities must meet the same 13 criteria which are used in the global version of the THE rating, and not only demonstrate excellent results in research and education but compete successfully with other leading research universities from 50 countries with developing economy. The fact that Samara University is now among top 300 universities in this cohort is a great achievement, and I am happy to congratulate the University on this success.”

Samara University has been included in 251-300 group of this rating for the first time, and this event testifies not only to recognition of the university abroad, but also to its international competitiveness. Successful performance in reputable international ratings is one of the most important demands for participants in the 5-100 State Program of support for leading Russian universities, launched by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.
Reference Information
Over three years of its participation in 5-100 Project, Samara University has been improving its results consistently in leading Russian and international ratings. In 2016 the University entered the global THE rating for the first time, and rose by more than 30 points and became one of 110 best universities in QS University Rankings: Emerging Europe and Central Asia (QS EECA).
In the same year the University was included for the third time in QS University Rankings: BRICS. The University is in 151-200 group of these Rankings.
The thirteen criteria of THE BRICS & Emerging Economies Rankings are grouped in the following categories: “research” (relative weight 55%), “educational activities” (25%), innovative activities (10%), and international ties (10%).
