Samara National Research University for the first time makes the top 500 list in the annual World University Rankings by Subject published by the British company Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).
In the publication of QS World University Rankings by Subject 2017 released today universities from 74 countries are assessed on the basis of academic records in 46 disciplines. Samara University is in the group of universities sharing positions from 450 to 500 in “Physics and Astronomy”.
Quacquarelli Symonds Ltd compiles QS World University Rankings, one of the most authoritative world university rankings. It also publishes regional and specialized ratings.
The QS World University Rankings by Subject is published for the seventh time and assesses universities in four criteria: academic reputation, employer reputation, research impact involving citation index and Hirsch index .
The Rankings by Subject are valued for the in-depth data in comparison with overall ratings. The progress shown by Russian institutions appears to reveal a marked improvement in international profile and recognition - says Ben Sowter, QS head of research.

For the past three years Samara University has steadily been improving its positions in the world and Russian university rankings. In addition to listings in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2016, the University was also ranked among 980 best higher education world centres in the World University Ranking THE, and appeared in TOP-300 in THE BRICS & Emerging Economies Rankings 2017.
Within the same year the University moved up by more than 30 positions appearing among 110 best universities in the QS University Rankings: Emerging Europe and Central Asia (QS EECA). For the third time, the University has been listed among the best educational institutions in the QS University Rankings: BRICS, being placed on 151-200 positions in this rating.
In the university ratings by the Russian agency RAEX (Expert RA) Samara University improved its position from 35 in 2012 to 26 in 2016. This year the University has also made the top 15 list of the best Russian universities in terms of graduate employability and takes 18th place for research activity.
