Winners of the Competition for Young Scientists, dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), were awarded in Moscow. The Competition was organized by the “Sistema” Charitable Foundation and the Russian Academy of Sciences, with the support of the MTS digital ecosystem, the Federal Service for Intellectual Property (Rospatent) and leading Russian technology companies. The authors of innovative projects received their awards at the venue of the Russian Academy of Sciences, were able to discuss application of their developments with business leaders and visit one of the country’s leading R&D Centres.
The winner from the Samara Region was Irina Matveeva, a junior researcher at the Photonics R&D Laboratory, Assistant at the Department of Laser and Biotechnical Systems of Samara National Research University.
Aimed at supporting innovative developments and research in advanced fields of science, the Competition was launched at the end of 2023. The project was participated by citizens of the Russian Federation – young scientists or teams of students and young scientists. They presented their own scientific developments and innovative studies in four nominations correlating to priority technological areas: “Artificial Intelligence and Quantum Technology”, “Alternative Energy Sources”, “Genetics and Biomedicine”, “New Materials and Chemical Processes”. Representatives of 45 regions of Russia sent 347 applications to the Competition. The Competition winners are authors of 16 scientific developments.
Irina Matveeva took the second place in the Nomination “Genetics and Biomedicine” with her project “Methods of Spectral Data Analysis for Skin Neoplasms Diagnosis”. The project has developed a new method for fast and painless diagnosis of malignant melanoma. According to the author, the developed diagnostic method based on the analysis of spectral data and images can be used as part of the software for automated screening diagnostics of skin pathologies, which will allow detecting skin tumors at the early stage of formation during routine medical examinations.
In Moscow, the Competition winners discussed the further development and application of the presented scientific projects. The awarding ceremony took place at the venue of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The authors of the best innovative developments received diplomas from the hands of the President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Gennady Krasnikov.
“I would like to note that the Academy of Sciences is famous for its scientific schools, and the task of all academicians is training young scientists, preparing a shift for themselves. I think it is very correct that this initiative is implemented jointly with AFK Sistema and the Federal Service for Intellectual Property. We have a number of initiators of this event with us today, thanks to whom we have identified the most talented young scientists. Despite your age, your projects have already been deservedly evaluated by experts. I would like to congratulate and wish you to move on, for conquering new scientific heights”, said Academician Gennady Krasnikov, President of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
“Today, domestic science faces the more urgent than ever task of creating ready-made applied solutions capable of ensuring the country’s technological sovereignty. The beginning of this work, of course, is in training and supporting young personnel, and here it is especially important to set the right vector for the research work of scientists and researchers through removal of requests and needs of the real sector of the economy. Together with the Russian Academy of Sciences, Rospatent and our industrial partners – the MTS digital ecosystem, Binnopharm Group, Sistema-Biotech and other representatives of high-tech business, we have tried to create a tool for supporting young scientists at the beginning of their path, create a foundation for practice-focused work to be in demand far beyond laboratories and research institutes”, said Larisa Pastukhova, President of the “Sistema” Charitable Foundation, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Education.
One of the main objectives of the Competition is building the open dialogue between young scientists and the real sector of the economy interested in developing advanced domestic technologies. Immediately after the awarding ceremony, the Competition winners attended the meeting with representatives of the management of domestic high-tech companies that supported the project: AFK Sistema, the MTS digital ecosystem, Binnopharm Group, Element Group, MEDSI Group, Natura Siberica, the Centre for Hydrogen Technologies, Sistema-Biotech, etc. Participants in the event discussed capabilities for introducing the presented developments into real production processes and modern tools of supporting young scientists working in priority sectors of science and technology.
Expert support in implementing the Competition was provided by the Federal Service for Intellectual Property (Rospatent), experts of which, together with representatives of leading research organizations and domestic businesses, participated in evaluating the submitted developments. Besides, Rospatent has implemented the educational track for the contestants dedicated to issues of protecting intellectual property.
Getting acquainted with high-tech business, young scientists visited the new Binnopharm Group pharmaceutical development centre in Krasnogorsk and discussed the capacity for interaction with the company’s representatives.
