"The Interuniversity International Campus near the Stadium "Solidarity Samara Arena" is to be: it has already been designed! But this does not negate the need for developing the present infrastructure of the University". "The transport linkages between the University and the enterprises are necessary. We are considering the possibility of creating the medium-capacity rail system and the high-speed tram". "We start developing new areas related to unmanned technologies, but those in the field of space". The head of the region announced that he’s ready to attend the pitching session of student space startups in May.
These theses were made at the meeting of Vyacheslav Fedorishchev, Governor of the Samara Region, with students and young specialists in the rocket and space industry. The meeting took place at Samara University on the eve of Cosmonautics Day.
The conversation turned out to be sincere, informal and frank. Students of the Institute of Aerospace Engineering, the University’s Advanced Aerospace Engineering School (AAES), as well as young employees of the "Progress" Rocket and Space Centre and the geoinformation company "Samara-Informsputnik", asked the governor questions about his student life and shared their ideas on ways of solving "subtle" problems related to creating the comfortable environment for research and engineering breakthroughs.
Okhana Berger came to Samara from Brazil in 2017, and now she is a postgraduate of the Interuniversity Department of Space Research. The girl is going to return to her homeland to pursue a career in the field of space technology as a researcher and a teacher. At the meeting with the governor of the Samara Region, she made a proposal, "Russia needs to develop its educational initiatives". And Vyacheslav Fedorishchev supported the idea, "I see that participating in international congresses is necessary for developing science, and we will hold our own conferences, as well".
Sergey Ivlev, a student and an AAES engineer, touched upon the infrastructural prospects, "Please tell us about the fate of the Interuniversity International Campus? In our laboratory, there is not always enough space for all comers. Spacious and modern rooms are really what we need". The same question bothered Polina Yakovleva, a member of the Club "Space Gradient", "We also cannot deploy all the purchased equipment in our laboratory". The governor assured the students that everything goes as planned, therefore the Interuniversity International Campus at the Stadium "Solidarity Samara Arena" is to be: it has already been designed! "The main thing is to build the campus before you finish your studies!" added Vyacheslav Fedorishchev. "But this does not negate the need for developing the present infrastructure of the University".
The conversation was partly devoted to the transport accessibility of industrial enterprises, which are concentrated in Samara far from the city centre. Viktor Mayorov, Head of the Student Design Bureau "RocketLAV", drew the governor’s attention to the problem of transport linkages between the University and the enterprises, "I managed to work at "Progress" and have realized that getting to work from the University faster than by tram 13 is much to be desired. Many of us live in student hostels, we work at the factory in the morning, and return to study in the evening. We would like to move faster". "I propose several solutions to this problem: developing the metro, relocating some design bureaus, for example, the group responsible for the "Amur" project, beyond the enterprise borders. At last, considering the possibility of remote work for students and postgraduates", replied the head of the region.
Vyacheslav Fedorishchev noted that the issue of transport accessibility is also relevant for the Interuniversity International Campus project: "I see the solution in creating the medium-capacity rail system and the high-speed tram".
But regarding the organization of remote work for designers, Yury Kozarenko, General Director of "Transport Budushchego" LLC, expressed his opinion, "Yes, remote work may seem to be the solution. But, to my mind, when a designer develops a part, a product, and then can go down to the workshop and see how his model turns into a product, this is much more important. In this case, you grow not only as a specialist, but also as a future manager!" Yury Kozarenko emphasized that a modern employer’s task is offering such a job so that young people do not want to leave the workshops.
During the meeting, the participants also discussed the commercialization of space developments. Polina Yakovleva spoke about the picosatellite constructor developed at the Club "Space Gradient", which could be implemented into the work of quantoriums. Vadim Ignatiev noted that it is necessary to support initiatives in the field of private astronautics and the promotion of student startups. Vyacheslav Fedorishchev got interested in the prospect, and suggested organizing the pitch session of such startups in May and forming a working group to create the ecosystem, for supporting the space technical representative.
The students also learned that the cluster of unmanned systems created in the region, centered in the workshops of "Transport Budushchego" LLC, develops towards space technologies. "We have ambitious plans, we create production facilities furnished with the most modern equipment. We have recently opened an engineering college. And we really need specialists in various fields. We can promise that students will be able to participate in a wide variety of projects with different levels of employment. We cannot do anything without you!" shared Yury Kozarenko the prospects of employment.
Concluding the conversation, Vyacheslav Fedorishchev emphasized, "Talented and interested young people have gathered here today. The region needs your energy, enthusiasm and ideas in the field of new promising technologies. And the relevant ministries of the Region will try to solve young people’s everyday problems as much as possible".
Vadim Ignatiev thanked the governor on behalf of the audience and presented Vyacheslav Fedorishchev with a mock-up of the satellite "AIST-ST" to be developed by Samara University together with the company "Special Technology Centre", expecting its launch as early as 2025.
