On May 15, 2025, the Samara Interregional Model United Nations (UN) took place at the Regional Centre for the Development of Public Diplomacy and International Relations named after Yevgeniy M. Primakov. The event brought together future diplomats, leaders, and individuals who will shape the future of our country and the world. This year’s Samara Model UN united students and schoolchildren from four regions of Russia. Among the participants were students from Volgograd State University, the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, MGIMO University (Moscow State Institute of International Relations), Lomonosov Moscow State University, Ulyanov Ulyanovsk State Pedagogical University, as well as universities and schools in the Samara region.
Special thanks were extended to the partners of the event, including the Coordinating Center of Samara University.
This year, as we commemorate the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, it is especially important to remember the price of peace and to make every effort to preserve it.
The official opening of the Model UN began with a welcoming speech by Mikhail Mikhailovich Leonov, Vice-Rector for Educational Work and Youth Policy at Samara University. Alexey Nikolaevich Borisov, Secretary-General of the Russian Association for the United Nations, underscored the significance of the Model UN for advancing youth diplomatic movements in Russia. He also noted that this year’s Model UN theme, combating the glorification of Nazism, is particularly relevant and crucial, as it requires young people to deeply understand history and critically evaluate information.
Official Representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Samara, Alexey Valeryevich Chupakhin, addressed the students and schoolchildren, stressing the importance of multilateral diplomacy in the modern world and the need for future international relations specialists to hone their negotiation skills, seek compromises, and defend their country’s interests.
A welcoming message was also delivered by Mark Alexandrovich Shleenkov, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Samara region.
