What was the 2024-2025 academic year like for the Samara University Library's English Speaking Club (ESC)?
This is a space where English isn't learned at a desk, but through live communication, discussions, games, and shared adventures. Since its official founding on October 5, 2023, the club has held regular weekly meetings every Thursday in the Library-coworking space on the second floor of Building #16 in the southern campus. From September to May, 35 sessions were held, with over 300 people participating. Many participants became regular attendees, but even those who came less frequently gained new experiences, made useful connections, and improved their English level.
Both Russian students and international students take part in the club's activities. English is no one's native language here, so there's no need to worry about accents or be shy about your vocabulary.
During the past academic year, ESC participants discussed important topics, played games, watched movies, and even went on excursions. The "flipped classroom" format was tried out, quests were played, and virtual journeys to distant countries took place. In debates, participants argued about what's more important in life – planning or luck. The most discussed topics included "Music," "Travel," "Relationships," "Computer and Video Games," and "Study Lifehacks."
The number of members in the VKontakte group nearly doubled over the academic year. Ahead lies the new 2025-2026 season, which promises to be even brighter and larger in scale. The English Speaking Club team is already working on the program to make the meetings even more engaging.

On May 29th, the final meeting of the academic year for the English Speaking Club will take place. The theme is "Miscellaneous" MISCELLANEOUS! Participants will share their impressions of the club's work and ask questions about topics they missed this year. The club will provide pizza and drinks, and participants are expected to bring fresh ideas. Time: 3:15 PM. Location: New Arrivals Reading Room (Bldg. 16, Room 302).
