For participants of the international project "Winter University of Engineering Sciences" at Samara University, their studies have extended beyond the classroom walls. This week, they visited a unique site – the university's Training Airfield, which hosts an aviation training center certified by Rosaviatsia (the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency).
Engineers from 11 countries explored the airfield's collection. It features 24 aircraft – both airplanes and helicopters – each serving as a visual aid to the history and evolution of engineering thought.
The immersion into the world of aviation began with a detailed account of the current state and prospects of Russian aircraft manufacturing.
To conclude, the participants practiced their skills in controlling unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). First on simulators, and then in real flight mode!
It is worth recalling that the "Winter University" is taking place from November 25 to December 7, 2025, simultaneously at three Russian universities. The Samara platform has brought together future engineers who are now intensively studying two tracks: "Aerospace Systems Engineering" and "Design of Unmanned Aerial Systems" with the support of industrial partners LLC "Geoscan", PJSC "UEC-Kuznetsov", JSC Group "Volgaenergoprom", and LLC "Transport of the Future". The training is conducted in Russian and English.
The visit to the airfield served as a bridge between theory and practice, giving students the opportunity to "touch" their future profession. Ahead, the teams have their own project defenses, and perhaps the very impressions gained at the airfield will inspire them to the boldest engineering solutions.
The project is being implemented as part of the national project "Youth and Children".
