From April 20 to 25, 2026, students from Samara University claimed first place in the team competition and first place in the Engineering Championship at the All-Russian Student Olympiad in Applied Mechanics with International Participation, held at Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (SPbPU). The team was mentored and accompanied by Tatiana Khivnik, Associate Professor at the Department of General Mechanical Engineering.

Comprising Ilya Suraev, Sofia Suraeva, and Ivan Proshletsov from the Institute of Engine and Power Plant Engineering, the Samara squad competed against 23 teams from 19 universities across Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States, with over 100 participants taking part in this high-stakes academic contest.

Contestants tackled six complex problems in strength of materials and theoretical mechanics, demonstrating not only technical mastery but also analytical precision under pressure. Following the main competition, participants and mentors explored SPbPU’s rich academic heritage through guided tours of its historic campus and the Museum of SPbPU History, gaining insight into the university’s scientific schools and century-old traditions.

A highlight of the event was the Engineering Championship, where teams were challenged to design and construct a load-bearing bridge within strict time limits using only basic materials. After assembly, each structure underwent rigorous stress testing to evaluate its strength and stability.

Samara University’s team emerged victorious once again—earning a First-Degree Diploma for building the most efficient and resilient bridge.

As part of the Olympiad program, students also visited leading industrial partners of SPbPU in St. Petersburg, including:

    • JSC “Atomenergoproekt” (part of Rosatom’s Engineering Division),
    • Tsentrtech-Engineering (affiliated with TVEL, Rosatom State Corporation),
    • JSC “Research Institute of Command Instruments,”
    • JSC “Concern CNIIEP” (“Electropribor”).

All winners and prize recipients were awarded official diplomas and commemorative gifts in recognition of their outstanding achievements.

We extend our warmest congratulations to our talented students and their dedicated mentor on this remarkable double victory! May this success fuel your passion for engineering—and inspire many more triumphs in the world of academic competitions ahead!
