The XXXIII Saint Petersburg International Conference on Integrated Navigation Systems recently concluded in Russia's northern capital, bringing together leading scientists and engineers from around the globe to exchange ideas and showcase cutting-edge developments in navigation and motion control.
The event was organized by JSC "Concern CSRI Elektropribor", a State Scientific Center of the Russian Federation and a cornerstone institution in the nation's navigation technology sector.
A Young Scholar on the Global Stage
Angelo Salvator Espinoza Valles, a second-year PhD student at the Inter-University Department of Space Research, participated in person in the section "Integrated Navigation and Control Systems." His poster presentation, titled "Estimation of the Residual Dipole Moment of a Small-Scale Spacecraft During Flight Testing," was co-authored with I. V. Belokonov, N. A. Elisov, and I. A. Lomaka.
The research addresses a critical challenge in spacecraft engineering: accurately measuring and compensating for residual magnetic moments that can interfere with onboard sensors and navigation systems—a particularly vital issue for small satellites operating in low Earth orbit.
"The conference gave me a unique opportunity to see how scientific challenges similar to my own are solved in practice—and to view my own work from a fresh perspective," shared Angelo Espinoza.
"This was my first experience participating in such a large-scale international scientific event, and it proved incredibly inspiring. I was reminded once again that the work we do at our department is truly meaningful and impactful—and I look forward to the future with renewed enthusiasm. As a perfect finale, the guided tour along the Neva River was the cherry on top!"
A Forum for Global Collaboration
The Saint Petersburg conference has long served as a prestigious platform for dialogue between academia and industry, theory and application. By presenting his research alongside seasoned professionals, Angelo Espinoza not only contributed to the scientific discourse but also took an important step in building his international professional network.
