Participants of the competition were undergraduate, specialist, master’s and postgraduate students of higher educational institutions of Moscow, St. Petersburg and the regions of the Russian Federation. The contestants competed in three areas:
- application of methods of optical diagnostics and therapy in medical and biological practice;
- capabilities of biophotonics in cell biology;
- topical issues and problems of optical diagnostics.
- II place – Irina Aleksandrovna Pimenova, 1st-year master student of the Institute of Informatics and Cybernetics, Senior Laboratory Assistant at the Department of Laser and Biotechnical Systems, “Analysis of Raman spectra of blood serum by the method of resolution of multidimensional curves”;
- III place – Kseniya Evgenievna Tomnikova, 1st-year master student of the Institute of Informatics and Cybernetics, “Multilayer perceptron for classification of Raman spectra of skin”.

The 2nd All-Russian competition of scientific research works of students, postgraduates and young scientists “Biophotonics in Life Sciences and Medicine” is held as part of “Science Week 2024”. The organizer of the competition is the Scientific and Technological Centre for Biomedical Photonics of the State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Education “I.S. Turgenev Oryol State University”. The competition is aimed at popularizing research activities and stimulating the initiative of young people in independent scientific research, for solving urgent problems in the field of biophotonics.
